Jersey-based airline Blue Islands has announced that it will be expanding its operations, increasing its flights to both Zurich and Geneva from end-October. Flights will operate to Geneva and Zurich six days a week, from Sunday through Friday, doubling its previous seat capacity.

The increase in flights to the destinations will be hugely beneficial to the Channel Islands’ financial services industry, as well as a major milestone in Blue Islands’ expansion.

The airline commenced flights to Switzerland from Jersey last year, flying alternate days to Zurich and Geneva. Further improvements followed in the summer schedule with both destinations being served on a triangular routing.

Derek Coates, Chairman of Blue Islands, stated: “We recognized a long time ago the potential for routes to both Zurich and Geneva and we are pleased that within the space of a year we are now able to offer this direct service to both destinations.”

For the leisure traveler, both Zurich and Geneva offer straightforward and convenient transfer links to most of the Swiss and French ski resorts, many of them just over an hour’s drive from either airport. On a reciprocal basis these daily flights provide easy access for Swiss leisure travelers to enjoy the charms of the Channel Islands.

Paul Sabin, Managing Director of Blue Islands, said: “The additional flights direct to our Swiss destinations is a reflection of passenger demand, particularly from the business community.” The new Swiss service will continue to be operated by a 31-seat Dornier 328 aircraft.
