The Japanese National Tax Agency recently announced that taxpayers will be able to file their returns electronically from February next year.

The initial phase will encompass the four prefectures of Aichi, Shizuoka, Mie and Gifu which fall under the Nagoya Regional Tax Bureau's remit. The Bureau intends to accept online filing of personal income and consumption tax in the early stages.

The Agency plans to offer the online tax filing and payment facility nationwide by June 2004.
