Peter Griffiths, Chairman of the Jersey Information Society Commission (JISC), the body charged with marketing the island as an centre for e-commerce, is to maintain the impetus of the JISC's new promotional initiative by speaking at two major conferences.
The JISC is one of the sponsors of the two-day 2nd Annual E-commerce Conference "Taking e-Business Offshore", organised by Euromoney Seminars, which winds up today. Mr Griffiths was due to be among a panel of experts discussing the pros and cons of locating business offshore with over 100 onshore e-businesses, entrepreneurs, Internet incubators and venture capitalists.
Euromoney conference manager, Tania Fox, commented: 'This is the second in our series of dedicated e-commerce conferences. We have noticed a marked change in those people interested in offshore since our last dedicated e-commerce conference; it is not simply the offshore jurisdictions attending. This year the focus is very much on the e-businesses themselves, and they are businesses with the real potential to operate offshore. We've been overwhelmed by the interest shown by these companies.'
Mr Griffiths is then due to move on to Aberdeen in Scotland, which is seeking a move towards new products, services and businesses. He has been invited to speak to business leaders at the conference on the process Jersey is undertaking to incorporate e-business into its economic structure.
Mr Griffiths said: 'These conference are excellent news for the Island. We can see not only that international speakers are taking an interest in Jersey, but that the Island is being recognised as a jurisdiction which is embracing the e-economy and has the potential to be an example to other economies.'
