Italian Finance Minister Giulio Tremonti has confirmed that on 15 December, the government plans to ask for special powers to renovate the country's tax system.
Known as "legge delega," such special powers will enable the government to draft the necessary legislative changes and will include a plan to reduce income taxes in 2003.
Vito Tanzi, an undersecretary at the Economy Ministry, also told reporters that the government's estimates based on its taxation calculations involve a plan to delay by one year its election promise to cut taxes in 2002.
