A high-level governmental delegation led by the Chief Minister Richard Corkill will travel to China at the weekend in a bid to raise the island’s business profile in one of the world’s fastest growing economies.
Accompanying the Chief Minister will be the Trade and Industry Minster Alex Downie, Education Minister Steve Rodan, the government’s e-commerce director Tim Craine and chief secretary Mary Williams.
The delegation is to concentrate its efforts in Beijing, visiting various governmental departments, and Shanghai. It is hoped that the government visit will be followed up by a trade mission.
“The Isle of Man has prospered as an international business centre and it makes sense for us to explore the potential for further connections with China that could benefit the economy and people of both countries in the future. Hopefully this delegation will help to pave the way for that to happen,” commented Mr Corkill, according to the Isle of Man Online.
