Isle Of Man Government Launches E-Commerce Web Site

On Friday last week, the Isle of Man launched a new e-commerce web site as the latest government initiative towards fulfilling the Island's ambition to become a world-class e-commerce hub.

Developed by the E-Commerce Division of the Chief Secretary's Office, the web site brings together for the first time in electronic format the many and varied advantages available on the Island to existing and new e-commerce businesses. As well as providing direct access to Government information about e-commerce, the site also provides a portal to private sector organisations offering e-commerce solutions, which are categorised on the site and provide direct links to the e-mail addresses and web sites of those private sector organisations.

The site has been developed for the Isle of Man government by PDMS, an e-business solutions firm and is contracted to the government to administer and develop the www.gov.im web site. Chris Gledhill, Managing Director of PDMS stated: 'The Isle of Man Government has clearly demonstrated its commitment to becoming an fully integrated electronic government and we are pleased to have the opportunity to support them in a project of this scale and importance.'

Speaking at the launch of the new web site, Director of E-Commerce, Tim Craine, commented: 'I am delighted with the look and feel and content of the new web site, which is the culmination of many weeks of hard work by both PDMS and the various Government Departments who have supplied the necessary information. I am also grateful for the input provided by the Private Sector E-Commerce Consultative Committee and the private sector organisations who have contributed their own contact details, which greatly add to the value of the site.'

He added: 'I believe that the new web site will become an essential point of reference for anyone wishing to develop their e-commerce business in the Isle of Man.'

The address for the web site is www.gov.im/ecommerce. As with all other Government web site developments, the new web site is part of the main Isle of Man Government web site, but it also has a unique web site address of: www.ecommerce.gov.im.
