The Isle of Man's Civil Service Commission and the Treasury have announced the appointment of Mrs Mary Williams as Chief Financial Officer Designate to replace Mr John Cashen OBE.
Mrs Williams, a chartered public finance accountant by trade, is currently Chief Executive at the Department of Home Affairs. No stranger to the Treasury, she was senior accountant of the department dealing with cash management, investments and insurance before she became Chief Internal Auditor. In 1993 she led her team to win the prestigious Cliff Nicholson Award for outstanding audit work which emphasised the value of the audit function.
In a statement released by the Manx government, Mrs Williams said: 'I am excited to be appointed to such a multi-faceted and challenging role which seeks to balance the needs and aspirations of the public and the business community on the Isle of Man with the ability of the economy of the Island to meet those needs and aspirations.'
Treasury Minister, Richard Corkill, said that he was 'very pleased' at Mrs Williams' appointment as he remarked 'the role of CFO is vital to the functioning of the Isle of Man Government and it is satisfying to see someone with such depth of experience being appointed. Mrs Williams' knowledge, not only of Treasury but of the workings of Government as a whole can only add to the current moves for joined up Government.'
Mrs Williams is expected to take up her new position on 9 July.
