A high-level government delegation from the Isle of Man met with the Lord Mayor of London, Michael Bear, as part of an official visit on May 10-11 to discuss the importance of the Isle of Man's relationship with the City of London.

In attendance on behalf of the Isle of Man, were the island's Chief Minister, Tony Brown, Treasury Minister Anne Craine, and Economic Development Minister Allan Bell.

"Our meetings provided an opportunity to emphasize our position as a country that is internationally responsible, enterprising and supportive of the British economy. We were able to deliver a strong message and raise awareness of the Island as a core asset to the City of London and wider global economy," Brown said.

The delegation also hosted a reception with UK media representatives and the United Kingdom-Isle of Man All-Party Parliamentary Group at the House of Commons.

Craine added: "It is ever more important that the Isle of Man maintains a high profile, both in the UK and London. The island is a valuable asset to the City of London and events and meetings of this nature are an effective way to highlight this. They also offer us an opportunity to strengthen relationships with key figures in the City."

Concluding, Bell stated: "As part of the ongoing process to promote the Isle of Man as a world-class international business centre, the reception was an ideal opportunity to draw attention to the appointment of Michael Charlton as the island’s Director of International Development. The former Chief Executive of Think London, the award-winning foreign direct investment agency for London, [Charlton] will be responsible for driving new UK and international business to the island."
