The Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) has struck a deal with the country's largest Internet Service Provider (ISP), Eircom, which aims to crack down on the infringement of copyrighted digital media.
Under the terms of the agreement, Eircom will prevent individuals from accessing websites which connect them to file-sharing facilities.
The IRMA has also issued a warning to other ISPs, threatening legal action against those who do not follow Eircom's lead.
In preparation for the introduction of the new regime, the IRMA is now compiling a list of the so-called "offending websites". Once completed, the IRMA will take the matter to court, where it will apply for an order to force all ISPs to comply and prevent access to the websites on the list.
