Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Coughlan has announced the publication of the Companies (Amendment) Bill 2009.
The publication follows Coughlan’s March 31 announcement, wherein she informed that the government had approved her proposals to bring forward legislation to improve the transparency of certain loans made by banks to their directors and to those connected with them.
The Bill also clarifies and modifies certain powers of the Director of Corporate Enforcement, so that he has the range of powers required to support him in his task of enforcing the Companies Code.
Coughland stated: “This Bill, combined with the increased resources announced on March 31 for the Director of Corporate Enforcement will send a strong message that Ireland is deeply committed to ensuring our companies comply with their obligations under the Companies Acts.”
