The Isle of Man Shipping Registry has announced the appointment of ship surveyors in Asia as part of the organization's efforts to offer its services to new registrants in the region.
The appointed surveyors will be based in Singapore and Manila, the Philippines, to cover the statutory requirements for ISM/ISPS/ILO and Flag State Inspections (FSI) on merchant vessels predominantly in the Asia-Pacific region, but may cover other geographical areas, as and when required.
The Registry said the appointment is a positive step in providing inspection services in strategic locations, reducing the cost of compliance on ship operators. The appointed inspectors will act as Isle of Man surveyors when carrying out their duties and will be exclusive to the Isle of Man flag for all statutory shipboard inspections.
The Registry has since 2010 redoubled its efforts to target the Asia Pacific market, including representing the island at Sea Japan and meeting with Singaporean industry representatives in 2010. The Isle of Man has recently added new tonnage from owners and operators in the Far East and is now the fastest growing ship registry in Europe with the third-youngest fleet in the world.
