The Isle of Man government on December 3, 2011, played host to a select number of high net-worth Chinese entrepreneurs as part of the territory's efforts to promote itself as a leading international financial centre.
The event, organized by the Isle of Man government’s Director of International Business Development, Michael Charlton, featured a 20-strong delegation of island business owners who engaged with 14 affluent entrepreneurs from the Asian market.
Welcoming the success of the event, the government said it offered a unique opportunity for the island to communicate its offerings to highly-successful business people from China, who heard of the advantages of conducting business from the Isle of Man. Presentations were made on a range of services that the Isle of Man has to offer entrepreneurs including wealth management, import/export, routes to capital markets and e-business opportunities.
The island's Minister for Economic Development, John Shimmin, said: "This was a very good example of how the government can work closely with the island’s private sector as a team to deliver a compelling series of messages about how the Isle of Man can add value to what Chinese businesses are trying to achieve in Europe."
Tim Craine, Director for Business Development Agency, said: "The event is evidence of what can be delivered as a result of pursuing a much more focussed approach to developing business contacts in targeted countries that are now part of the Department’s Country Strategy."
