UK-based private investors sit up and take note - if you didn't know this already you have little over a week to prepare for the Investor 2001 Conference at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster.

Taking place on March 9 and 10, the conference is organised by Barclays Stockbrokers with big name sponsors such as Interactive Investor International and Bloomberg Television.

Bloomberg says the 'world's finest investment brains' will be at the conference offering investors a rare and valuable opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise. Also on offer will be the latest and best investment products and information resources and the agenda will be packed with seminars and exhibitions on a full range of investment opportunities for investors of all ranks from the novice to the experienced. Over 50 leading companies from the private investment industry will be exhibiting including online retail investors such as Charles Schwab and TD Waterhouse.

Justin Urquhart Stewart of Barclays Stockbrokers will chair the conference and introduce a host of top-flight speakers and facilitators including Adam Shaw from BBC's Working Lunch, Louise Cooper from the Money Channel and Tanya Beckett of BBC Breakfast News. 'In our opinion this is a unique opportunity to have direct access to the stars of the investment world,' said Lawrence Gosling, editor-in-chief of Investor's Week. 'Listening to their views and predictions is an exciting prospect to the most ardent investor. The exhibition of product providing companies then provides the opportunity to put their words of wisdom into practice.'

If last year's conference is anything to go by - with almost 4,000 investors in attendance - the Investor 2001 conference is expected to be a major success. Simone Barnes, direct marketing manager of the event, said: 'This year we have seen a tremendous take-up, with a high proportion being those who enjoyed last year so much.'
