Investec Trust Places Increased Emphasis On Risk And Compliance

Investec Trust (Guernsey) Limited announced this week that it is seeking to increase its focus in the area of Risk and Compliance, and as such, has appointed a new director to head up the Risk and Compliance team.

According to Investec, Julie De Garis has joined the business after 17 years in the legal profession in private practice and specialising in compliance, government policy and gambling control.

Prior to joining Investec Trust, she worked as the compliance officer for Praxis Fiduciaries Limited leading the compliance team, developing the compliance framework, drafting policies and procedures and managing projects.

Ms De Garis has also worked for Ozannes and the Alderney Gambling Control Commission in the Channel Islands after moving from her home in Australia, the firm revealed.

In a statement on the new appointment, Investec Trust explained that:

"Julie joins Investec Trust at a time when the business is focussed on ensuring its standards in risk and compliance marry with its strategic objectives and support the business effectively going forwards. She will be responsible for leading the risk and compliance team in Guernsey, analysing and measuring business risk whilst also managing the implementation of policies and procedures."

Managing Director Robert Clifford added:

“The appointment of a director specifically to oversee risk and compliance demonstrated the emphasis the business placed on having these functions working effectively in support of the business objectives, rather than being seen as a block to business. Julie has an extensive understanding of the client risk inherent within trust companies and, in addition to a thorough knowledge of the regulatory environment, a breadth of experience coupled with an understanding of what we want to achieve as a business.
