Hong Kong's Advisory Committee on the Cruise Industry is considering interim berthing arrangements for liners before the new cruise terminal is completed.

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Rita Lau told lawmakers on April 22 that the region's Tourism Commission has been engaging with the cruise industry and co-ordinating with government departments to provide quality support facilities and services to visiting cruise ships and their passengers.

"Given the special operational environment and transport needs of container terminals, we need to ensure the safety of cruise passengers, minimize the number of non-container terminal vehicles, and reduce the waiting time of cruise passengers at container terminals for transportation," Mrs Lau explained, adding:

"We consider the arrangement of feeder buses by shipping agencies to transport cruise passengers in and out of container terminals the safest and most appropriate arrangement."
