The Indonesian Director General of Taxation, Hadi Purnomo, revealed earlier this week that domestic revenue collection has exceeded the expectations laid out in the 2001 budget.
The tax chief said that so far, his office has collected around Rp 158.36 trillion (US$ 15.82 billion), which greatly exceeds the budget target of Rp 156.57 trillion.
He speculated that the higher collection figures are due to higher revenue from non-oil income tax and VAT, and revealed that land and building taxes had also shown a significant increase.
For the 2002 budget, according to reports, the Indonesian government has agreed to increase the revenue collection target to Rp 184.68 trillion.
