Regional Delhi government Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced this week that she is planning to make it mandatory for all business houses with an annual turnover of over 1 million rupees to file tax forms with the government through the Internet. The rule will apply to tender and sales-tax forms, although payment of taxes for the time being will still take place through banks.

Minister Dikshit made her announcement at a conference organised by the Asian Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation. The 19th general assembly in India of ASOCIO 2001 is focussing on the theme of "Government and Industry - Business in the Digital Economy."
