According to a Legal Week report, delegates from the Indian Bar Council are set to meet with represenatives of the UK Law Society to discuss trade issues, ahead of the May deadline for India to issue proposals bringing it into compliance with the WTO's General Agreement on Trade in Services (GAT).
The visit, set to take place in May, follows a trip to India last October by the Law Society, which sought to persuade the Indian authorities to loosen the current restrictions on bar entry.
Speaking to the news service, Law Society policy executive for South Asia and the Pacific, Hugh McDermott explained that:
"We are hoping the trip will give the Indian legal profession a greater understanding of the UK firms' position."
