Officials from India and Thailand have met to review the pending Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries, it has been announced.
The meeting resulted in a preliminary date being set for the conclusion of the FTA, with Kamal Nath, India's caretaker commerce minister, revealing that the signing will likely take place in June or July of this year.
Originally, the deal was set to be signed in December 2008, but several minor political issues in Thailand deterred India from forging ahead.
Once the deal is in place, it is hoped that bilateral trade between the two countries will be lifted by around USD10bn (GBP6.7bn) annually, with tariff reductions awarded to items including polycarbonates, aluminium alloy, air conditioners, precious metals, jewellery, colour television sets, semi-finished steel products, gearboxes, metal products, jewellery components and precious stones.
