India is to begin imposing a six-month import tax levy on some of the aluminium imports it receives from China in a bid to decrease what has been described as "market disruption".
In an attempt to try and protect their own metal industries, India's federal government has announced it will begin levying a 21% import tax on flat-rolled aluminium products, with a 35% fee to be imposed on foil.
The levies will only apply to imports from China.
According to India's Central Board of Excise and Customs, the taxes will apply to these particular imports of Chinese aluminium until October 8, 2009, although there is a possibility they could be revoked sooner.
