It has emerged this week that the India and Mauritius joint trade committee is set to meet in November to review the bilateral trade agreement in place between the two countries.

Under the provisions of the trade agreement, the two sides are scheduled to meet at least once every two years, with the location of the summits alternating between India and Mauritius.

Mauritius is one of India's major trading partners in sub-Saharan Africa, and in 2002/2003 exports to the Indian Ocean jurisdiction were valued at $165 million, whilst imports totalled $16.13 million, a Times of India report recently revealed.

The nations entered into a two-way agreement in 1998 that protected and promoted investment between them and have additionally signed a double taxation agreement. However, ministers from both sides have recently expressed an interest in expanding the provisions of the agreement in order to increase investment flows.
