Workers at Israel's Income Tax Authority are set to strike over a long-running dispute regarding additional pay.
The strike will result in the closure of all of the country's Tax Authority offices.
The decision to strike comes after two years of negotiations with the ministry over the lack of compensation they have received for the substantial number of extra jobs they claim they have had to carry out in light of recent law changes. These include the implementation of the negative income tax law, compensation schemes for war damages and the fight against organized crime.
Workers are claiming that their pleas for extra pay and more workers have failed to obtain a result, and union representatives claim that more serious action is now required to try and change the Finance Ministry's mind.
The government has little sympathy for the tax workers however, and has accused them of "taking advantage of the negative income tax claimants and exploiting the sensitive state the economy is currently in" as a way of securing a pay rise.
