The IRS has confirmed that it is fast-tracking requests from new charities asking for tax-exempt status which have been created to help the victims of the terrorist attacks on America by organising an expedited review and approval system which will facilitate the process.
New charity organisations are asked to apply for tax-exempt status by filing IRS Form 1023 and marking at the top of the form the words: "Disaster Relief, Sept. 11, 2001m" and the IRS will give the applications immediate attention. Another form, no. 1023, explain how to submit the application either by post, express mail or delivery service.
