Some 200 Internal Revenue Service offices will open across America on Saturday May 15 in an effort to help small businesses and individual taxpayers solve their taxation problems. Telephone help will also be available and the offices will remain open until 2pm.
Assistance will be given with issues such as filling in tax forms to negotiating payment of outstanding tax bills. Help will also be at hand to discuss tax notices and audits. Two further ‘open days’ are planned for June 5 and 26.
IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman explained: “Our goal is to resolve issues on the spot so small businesses and individuals can put any issues they have with the IRS behind them. If you have a problem filing or paying your taxes or resolving a tough tax issue, we encourage you to come in and work with us.”
At a previous open day on March 27, two-thirds of those taxpayers applying requested and received assistance with payments and notices. According to the IRS, 88% of those who attended the March Open Day received assistance and had their issues resolved on the day.
