As the IRS seeks to meet its online filing targets, the agency recently unveiled three new e-service products that will shortly be added to its range of online functions, designed to encourage tax preparers to move away from the traditional, and time consuming, paper return method.
The new facilities consist of disclosure authorization, electronic account resolution and transcript delivery, and have been praised by members of the tax preparation industry who note that the service will allow them to communicate with the IRS at any time, greatly accelerating the filing process for taxpayers.
"The IRS is eager to promote and expand electronic filing and electronic services, and to move away from paper filing and phone contact with the service," observes Nancy Sieger, modernization officer for Customer Accounts Services in the IRS's Small Business/Self-Employed (SB/SE) Division. "We launched our e-filing program roughly 15 years ago, and Internet-based products are the next logical step in that progression."
Whilst the facilities are not yet available, the IRS is inviting qualified practioners to register for the products now.
