ICC Considers Next Step In BTL Case As Miami Court Favours Belize Government

Innovative Communication Corporation LLC is considering an appeal against last week's decision by the US District Court in Miami in favour of the government of Belize in a legal dispute centred on a controlling share in Belize Telecommunications Limited.

ICC believes that the decision does not address what it considers to be the central issue in the dispute, namely, that the Belizean government has effectively "defrauded" ICC into making a substantial investment in BTL with the promise it would create an environment in which it could operate profitably.

“We believe that there is a basis for immediate reconsideration or appeal to the 11th Circuit, which we intend to do expeditiously,” commented Jeffrey J. Prosser, chairman, president and CEO of ICC, which is based in Florida and has extensive operations in the Caribbean, including British Virgin Islands, Sint Maarten, Saint-Martin, Guadeloupe, Martinique, as well as in the United states and France.

“We intend to do everything we can do to protect our investment, including continuing litigation and arbitration already filed of our claim of more than US$200 million in damages for the government’s breach of its written, contractual promises that caused Innovative to acquire BTL and make these investments.”
