Worried that Internet cafes are being used to lure your girls into prostitution, and spurred into action by a Beijing Internet cafe fire that killed 25 people last month, the government is proposing to regulate the SAR's near-300 cafes.
The plan would ban teenagers under 16 from Internet cafes after 10 pm and require operators to install devices blocking violent, pornographic or gambling Web sites; the cafes would also have to be brightly lit.
"The main problem with Internet cafes is that they might become breeding grounds for various undesirable or illegal activities if they are totally unregulated. There can also be potential building and fire safety risks," according to a government handout.
A government spokeswoman said the administration hoped to introduce the new regulations by early next year, and was currently consulting lawmakers and industry representatives.
