Hong Kong resident businesses and individuals are now able to pay their taxes, rates and other charges over the Internet, thanks to the introduction of the Treasury's 24-hour bill payment service via the Internet.
The new online service is part of Hong Kong's flagship Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) Scheme, a long-term programme to provide a wide range of public services electronically. As well as taxes, citizens will be able to pay government fees, register a change of personal address, or register to vote, among other transactions. For some, digital signatures will be required and those wishing to use the service are required to register with the respective banks.
As well as the Internet, ESD services are being made available in Hong Kong via public information kiosks. The platform is also to be used for private sector e-commerce initiatives.
Of the Treasury's foray into Internet payments, a spokesman said: 'Payment through Internet is a time-saving payment method which meets the growing needs of our society.'
Full details and a list of banks offering the service are available on the Hong Kong Treasury website at www.info.gov.hk/tsy
