The Intellectual Property Department of the Hong Kong government announced recently that from May 7, the fees charged for filing patent and design applications will be significantly reduced.
As part of an overhaul of the territory's intellectual property regime, the charge for the filing of a Hong Kong standard patent will be reduced from HK$2,800 to HK$760, and the cost of registering a single design will drop from HK$1,600 to HK$785.
In addition, the IPD revealed that applicants will be able to file the necessary documents electronically, and that various of the procedures currently in place will be amended in order to streamline the application process.
