As his recent European tour continued, Hong Kong’s Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang, on Friday met with the President of the Czech Republic, Mr Vaclav Klaus, where various aspects of bilateral cooperation were explored, particularly in respect of business and trade links.
During their meeting at Prague Castle, Mr Tsang updated President Klaus on Hong Kong's economic performance, CEPA, increased economic co-operation with China's nine southern provinces, and last month's Legislative Council elections.
Mr Tsang also welcomed the decision by CzechInvest, the country’s investment promotion agency, to establish its South East Asian office in Hong Kong.
“Both sides agreed to facilitate the trade and investment flows between the two places," Mr Tsang explained of his meetings with various Czech ministers, adding that follow up talks are planned that will lead to a possible Investment Protection Agreement and a Double Taxation Agreement.
“These will certainly benefit investors on both sides and increase the attractiveness of the emerging business opportunities,” continued Mr Tsang.
"Just as Hong Kong is a gateway for Czech companies going to the Mainland, the Czech Republic is a gateway for Hong Kong companies to go to the EU," he added.
Last weekend also saw Tsang deliver a keynote speech at a business luncheon co-organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office London.
