Hong Kong handled 5.5 million containers in the first quarter of this year, up 2.3% on the same period last year, according to the Port Development Council.
Kwai Tsing Container Terminals handled 3.89 million containers, up 12.4%, the Council reported on April 17.
March saw 1.87 million containers handled in Hong Kong, down 8.8% on the same month last year, with 1.31 million of them passing through Kwai Tsing.
The number of containers processed by other terminals fell 29.4% to 560,000 in March, bringing the first quarter's total to 1.61 million, down 15.9% over a year earlier.
Last year, Kwai Tsing handled just under 16.5 million containers, up 12.4% over the previous year.
