PCCW's Business eSolutions, a unit of Hong Kong-listed Pacific Century CyberWorks (PCCW), opened Hong Kong's first Application Management Services Centre last week, as industry sources predict that demand for managed services in the region will grow rapidly, driven by increasing Internet adoption, IT outsourcing and implementation of e-business strategies.
Business eSolutions says the services centre, located in Causeway Bay, will help businesses save up to 30 per cent on their operating costs. Its president, Thomas Siu, said: 'The services centre helps customers achieve cost and operation efficiency by minimizing manpower and ensuring the integrity of data. For example, banks can save considerable costs by outsourcing their customer-facing Internet banking applications to the services centre without compromising the confidentiality of their data.' He continued: 'Since any hiccup may cause severe service and financial disruptions, the proactive monitoring approach will become the best cost-effective solution for banks to manage and optimize their mission-critical applications.'
The outsourcing of services in greater China is expected to rise from US$174 million this year to US$476 million by 2004 and Business eSolutions intends to target selected high-growth industrial sectors in greater China, including finance, the public sector, multimedia, communications and manufacturing.
