Hong Kong Consults On 2017-18 Budget

by Mary Swire,, Hong Kong

04 October 2016

On October 3, the Hong Kong Government announced that it is seeking input on the 2017-18 Budget.

The Chief Executive's Policy Address is normally given in January each year, while the Budget is unveiled during the following month. However, the consultation exercise for both are being conducted together this year "to enable the community to have more comprehensive discussion so that the Government could extensively collect views from members of the public."

The Government has provided an explanatory memorandum on the various economic and fiscal factors to be considered, and a website has been set up to collect public views. Members of the public are invited to give their views on the website, or by email, telephone, or fax.
