The amount of tax paid by Hong Kong’s top earner has fallen to a four year low according to a report in Channel News Asia.
The report states that Hong Kong’s highest earning citizen paid $2.8 million to the Inland Revenue this year, about half of the tax paid by the city’s top earner the year before.
Analysts suggest the fact underlines that the city’s economy is still recovering from a relatively long economic malaise.
Hong Kong's Commissioner of Inland Revenue, Alice Lau, also observed in the report that the number of taxpayers with HK$900,000 in assessable income has declined 4%.
