26 July 2006

Bahamas-based private client, corporate and commercial law firm Higgs and Johnson has been short-listed for the international Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners’ (STEP) Offshore Legal Team of the Year award.

Formed in 1948 by Godfrey W. Higgs and Mervyn Johnson, the company can claim to be the oldest law firm in the Bahamas. It has been nominated for the STEP award alongside the global heavyweights of the offshore legal world, Walkers and Ogier.

“It’s a great honour to be nominated by STEP for such a prestigious award,” stated Higgs & Johnson senior partner Philip C. Dunkley.

“It is particularly gratifying and encouraging to receive this acknowledgement of the efforts by our legal team to serve the industry with excellence. Nonetheless, we recognise that there is always room for improvement and we shall continue with renewed vigour and enthusiasm to strive to improve our services to the industry," he added.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 26 September 2006 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.

STEP provides education, training, representation and networking for its members, who are professionals specialising in trusts and estates, executorship, administration and related taxes. Members advise clients on the broad business of the management of personal finance.

In its fifteen year history, STEP's membership has grown from just sixty to around 12,000.
