Further evidence that hedge funds enjoyed a more profitable month in September was released this week, with the Hennessee Hedge Fund Index announcing a positive return of 1.47% for the month.
The news comes soon after the Van Hedge Index announced a 1.7% gain in September, net of fees, and S&P announced a 0.47% rise in its Hedge Fund Index.
Bolstering Hennessee’s performance was the Latin American Index, which returned a 4.56% gain last month. Other notable performers were the Regulation D index, returning 3.66% and the Europe Index, returning 2.75%.
Short selling strategies appeared to fare badly last month however, and Hennessee’s Short Biased index lost 3.25% in September as equity markets rallied, whilst the firm’s Macro Index also posted negative returns, losing 0.87%.
The Hennessee hedge fund Indices are calculated on data supplied by more than 730 hedge funds.
