Hedge Funds Positive In June

A flash estimate from HedgeFund.net shows that the HFN Hedge Fund Aggregate Average, an equal weighted average of all single manager hedge funds and CTA/managed futures products in the HedgeFund.net database, was +1.40% in June 2007 and ended the first half of 2007 +7.86%. The increase was the 11th positive month in a row for hedge funds.

After trailing the S&P 500 Total Return for the past three three months, the Aggregate Average outperformed the S&P which ended June -1.66% and +6.96% YTD.

Contrary to the previous three months, says HedgeFund.net, hedge funds on average produced positive results despite falls on most major global equity markets during the month. However, problems in the subprime market dragged the HFN Finance Sector Average down 0.55% in June and 1.09% YTD.

Strong oil prices kept the HFN Energy Sector Average in the black, with +1.24% in June and +12.15% YTD. The HFN Emerging Markets Average was +1.95% in June and +11.21% YTD.

The HedgeFund.net database consists of over 7,400 current hedge fund, fund of funds, and CTA products. HedgeFund.net (HFN), a division of Channel Capital Group Inc, is a leading source for hedge fund news and information.
