The Isle of Man recently played host to a one day seminar which aimed to explore how the island's finance sector could capitalise on the growing hedge fund industry.
The event, organised by Isle of Man Finance in conjunction with the Alternative Investment Management Association and the Isle of Man Fund Management Association, drew interest from around 60 people involved in the local fund management industry and explored topics such as regulation of hedge funds in the UK and US and hedge fund incubators.
Data released at the event revealed that the universe for global funds was set to rise to US$26 trillion by 2010 from the current level of US$12 trillion, a fact that IoM Finance pointed out presented a huge opportunity for the island to play a part in the hedge fund boom.
The seminar also discussed other challenges and opportunities in the alternative investment industry including the Isle of Man’s Strategic Funds Initiative, launched last year.
Steven Beevers, IoM Finance business development manager observed: “We are confident that the day has helped open eyes to potential growth in alternative investments and stimulate a worthwhile discussion.”
