The merged firm will be known as “Harneys” and will open on 1st September 2008.

"Harneys has been the leading law firm in the British Virgin Islands for over 40 years, and we have a dedication to quality and responsiveness that we aim to replicate in Cayman," Harneys said in a statement.

"The addition of our Cayman office is all about providing a more complete service to our clients, and is one important part of a number of strategic initiatives that will enhance what the firm has to offer to clients around the world," the statement added.

Harneys Global Head of Investment Funds, Kieron O’Rourke, and fellow partner Tim Clipstone will relocate to Cayman from the firm's BVI office, to spearhead its Cayman practice in cross-border commercial transactions, with a particular focus on hedge funds and private equity, structured finance, asset and project finance, and insolvency.
