HSBC Improves Its On-Line Offshore Banking Service

Investors Offshore, London

14 February 2003

HSBC has announced further improvements to its HSBC Offshore internet-based banking service. With the new set of facilities, customers can now:

  • pay regular UK bills from abroad free of charge using the BACs system
  • open new accounts without even talking to the bank
  • view fuller account details and histories at any time
  • receive e-statements and notifications
  • manage their open-ended investment funds
  • order new cheque books
  • use great value-for-money transfer facilities

The new internet service will also cut the cost of banking to customers, with international transfers via the new web facilities now at least 40 per cent cheaper than through previous channels.

HSBC Offshore's Head of E-Commerce, Mark Trasler, said:
"Our research tells us that expats love the convenience of the internet and in particular internet banking because it makes their lives so much easier. So we are continually upgrading our internet banking services to make sure they work as simply and efficiently as any High Street branch - and all without the queues!"

"In addition to the host of new and improved features, the site has been reorganized to be more intuitive and logical - with fewer 'clicks' needed to access the most frequently used facilities - and to bring more cost-effective banking within customers' reach."

"The result of this investment is that our clients are completely confident in the security and quality of the services we offer and are signing up for personal internet banking at an ever-accelerating rate. Today, twice the percentage of our customers use internet banking compared to HSBC's stay-at-home customers in the UK."
