A class action lawsuit has been filed against US tax preparer, H&R Block over the company's 'misleading' online tax filing software, according to reports.
The suit, filed with the Lackawanna County Court in Pennsylvania, alleges that H&R Block presents the options for online tax filing in a deceptive way, and that the firm 'markets a universal government service as a service that is unique and central to H&R Block's tax preparation service'.
Internet users who file their tax returns through the company are charged a $30-$40 dollar fee, although the Internal Revenue Service offers a free filing program.
The tax preparer's motion to dismiss on the grounds that the County Court is not the appropriate forum in which to resolve the dispute with the class action plaintiffs has reportedly been rejected by Judge Trish Corbett.
