HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) plans to display a selection of seized goods at the Collins Stewart London Boat Show, which will be held at Excel, London from Friday 11 January 2008 to Sunday 20 January 2008.
In addition to discussing money laundering, tax fraud, and the Department's ongoing fight against organised crime, HMRC officers will be on hand to show seized items including items made from animals classed as endangered species banned under the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES).
Liz Challand, Exhibitions Manager for HMRC announced that:
"We hope visitors to the show will find it interesting to learn more about our work in protecting endangered species and our success in fighting organised crime such as drug, alcohol and cigarette smuggling, illegal imports, money laundering and tax fraud."
"We will also be promoting our confidential hotline which has been overwhelmingly successful - receiving numerous calls from the public in the last year. It has helped us improve our intelligence base and promotes a good working partnership with local people and communities in the fight against crime."
Staff will be available at the exhibition to answer questions on VAT, Self Assessment and smuggling, as well as other aspects of the work of HMRC.
