Hong Kong's Secretary for Justice, Wong Yan Lung, on Monday started his three-day visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou, with the intent of enhancing mutual understanding between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland in judicial and legal matters.
Whilst there, Mr Wong will also promote Hong Kong's arbitration services.
Mr Wong began his visit by calling on Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng, and the Shanghai Higher People's Court, Shanghai Justice Bureau & Shanghai Lawyers Association on Monday.
He briefed them on the Department of Justice's latest work, including its promotion of mutual legal assistance and Hong Kong's arbitration services.
Mr Wong will meet with representatives of the Shanghai Commission of the China International Economic & Trade Arbitration Commission and Hong Kong law firms with branch offices in Shanghai on Tuesday. He will also visit Fudan University.
On April 9th in Hangzhou, Wong will meet officials from the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, the Legislative Affairs Office of the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, and the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Justice. He will also have opportunities to learn more about the implementation of Hangzhou's mediation law.
Mr Wong will return to Hong Kong on April 10th.
