Guernsey To Introduce Additional Charges For Housing Control Applications,
by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London
Monday, May 11, 2009
From June 1, 2009, Guernsey's Housing Department will make an administration charge for a range of housing control applications.
Stephen Langford, Chief Officer of Housing said:
“These charges have come into place following a States decision that the costs associated with the administration of certain types of applications processed by the Housing Control Section should be funded by the applicant. In response to the States’ decision, we have already introduced some charges, and, from June 1, we will be applying the remainder of the charges.”
Administration charges will be made for the following:
Applications for all employment-related housing licences; and
Applications for Right to Work Documents for staff living in Open Market Hotel or Care Home accommodation.
Administration charges are already in place for:
Replacement Right to Work documents where the original document has been lost or destroyed; and
The issuing of a Declaration of Registration following the inspection of any dwelling on the Open Market Housing Register.
The fees for employment-related housing licences will vary depending on the type and length of the document applied for, but employers need to be aware that the administration charge will apply regardless of whether the application is successful or not. “For that reason, we will shortly be publishing a checklist for employers so that they can avoid making unnecessary applications,” said Esther Ingrouille, Director of Housing Control. “If, having reviewed the checklist, employers are still unsure, Housing Control staff will be happy to advise them.”
There will be no charge for processing of initial applications for Housing Licences or Right to Work documents if they are not employment-related documents, and administration charges will not be made for changes to the name and or address shown on a housing licence or Right to Work document, added the Guernsey government's statement.
