Guernsey is set to follow neighbouring Jersey's lead by pushing ahead with new e-commerce laws this year. Jersey has given itself a head start by recently publishing a draft bill for public consultation, but Guernsey is not far behind in its progress on drafting new laws required to attract e-commerce to the island.
Work has already begun on e-commerce legislation in Guernsey and local politicians and industry are watching the progress of Jersey closely as they prepare to move on to the next stage. So far only selected companies and organisations, including the Chamber of Commerce, have seen Guernsey's draft proposal. It is expected that a policy letter will be issued publicly within the next few months and that the legislation will be in place in Guernsey by the end of this year.
