Guernsey Rejects Vehicle Tax Plans

by Jason Gorringe,, London

29 January 2015

The future of vehicle taxation in Guernsey remains unclear, after two tax proposals were rejected by Guernsey's Parliament this month amid popular protests.

Proposed amendments to the width and emissions tax were defeated, as was a plan to reintroduce motor tax. Both measures were deeply unpopular.

The Government has stated that it is seeking to raise taxes to fund transport initiatives including paid parking, a free bus service, and a review of the island's speed limits. The Environment Department will now put forward an alternative proposal to raise the necessary revenue.
