The States of Guernsey has announced that access to Bailiwick of Guernsey legal materials will be more readily available with the launch of the Island’s first Legal Resources website.
The website is the result of a joint initiative between Guernsey’s Royal Court and the Law Officers of the Crown and provides access to a comprehensive collection and database of Guernsey legal material, including:
Commenting on the launch of the new website, the Bailiff of Guernsey, Geoffrey Rowland, said:
“Both the Royal Court and the Law Officers are committed to further improving the administration of justice in the Island by providing easy access to some of its most frequently used legal material. We hope the site will provide an invaluable resource not just to members of the legal profession, but to the public, researchers and anybody thinking about doing business or taking up residency in Guernsey. The intention is to progressively publish legislation enacted in earlier years, as well as publishing all new legislation on the site. The site will help to promote Guernsey’s identity on the international stage.”
HM Procureur, Nik Van Leuven, said:
“I am delighted to see the project to develop this website coming to fruition. Making laws and legal authorities easily available is the hallmark of a civilised and mature community. It is essential that the public have easy access to the laws and regulations by which their lives, businesses and general affairs are conducted. The provision of ready access to comprehensive legal information sits comfortably with our notions of rights and freedoms.”
The site is still in its infancy, during the course of this year it will be expanded to include additional legislation, Judgments and Law Reports from earlier years, informed the release.
