Guernsey 'Instrumental' In Ogier's Hedge Fund Award

The achievements of its Guernsey office have been instrumental in Ogier being named ‘Offshore Law Firm of the Year, 2008’ by The Hedge Fund Journal, according to GuernseyFinance.

Ogier was given the award by a panel of judges for the hedge fund industry journal, who looked at a number of criteria during the decision-making process, and spoke to various law firms and their clients to determine the winner.

Rod Sparks, publisher of The Hedge Fund Journal, congratulated Ogier on the win, and noted that two Guernsey transactions were particularly significant: Ogier acted as Guernsey legal adviser on the CHF2.196bn (approximately USD2bn) listing of Gottex Fund Management Holdings Limited on the Zurich Stock Exchange, which was the largest listing on the Exchange in 2007; and Ogier acted in an oversubscribed ‘C’ Share issue for the Guernsey-domiciled Dexion Absolute Limited, which is the world’s largest listed fund of hedge funds, and is listed on the London Stock Exchange.

“This is yet another endorsement for the funds advice provided by Ogier as a multi-jurisdictional law firm,” commented Peter Niven, Chief Executive of GuernseyFinance.

“However, we can see that it is the achievements of the Guernsey office in particular that have played a significant part in the firm winning this award. This highlights the very high standards of Ogier in the Island. It is also illustrative of the excellent services, whether accounting, audit, tax, actuarial or legal, that support Guernsey’s leading international finance industry," he added.

Ogier Guernsey partner Roger Le Tissier picked up the award at the Natural History Museum in London on 6th March, 2008.

He announced that: “After winning American-based Alpha magazine’s ‘Top Offshore Law Firm’ two years running we are delighted to receive similar recognition for our funds advice from a panel based in Europe.
