Guernsey Finance's Promotional Work Paying Dividends

Guernsey has won new finance business directly as a result of industry participation in two major fund conferences during July, according to Guernsey Finance, the island's investment promotion agency.

Guernsey Finance, alongside representatives from the Island’s fund industry, last month exhibited at Fund Forum International in Monaco and at the Global Alternative Investment Management (GAIM) Forum in Cannes.

"I am delighted to report that attendance at these conferences has secured concrete business for Guernsey’s finance industry," commented Guernsey Finance Chief Executive Peter Niven. "This illustrates both how Guernsey is successfully promoting itself as a jurisdiction of choice and that the key messages have to be continually reinforced if this progress is to be continued."

Niven added:

"Increasingly delegates at events such as these are coming to us already familiar with the Guernsey brand. The combination of constant Guernsey Finance and industry attendance at conferences and comment in trade journals is giving us a higher profile than we have had previously. We still meet people though who are not aware of what Guernsey has to offer and so we take time to explain to them about the Island’s experienced and innovative finance industry. It also demonstrates the continued need to persistently work in partnership to highlight the Island as a leading international finance centre."

Guernsey Finance was co-sponsoring Fund Forum. The event attracted over 1,500 attendees, comprising senior personnel in retail and institutional fund management, representing banks and fund management companies, as well as lawyers, accountants, consultants and service providers.

Guernsey Finance also had a major presence at GAIM, which attracted over 1,000 alternative investment management professionals from around the world.

"These conferences and particularly GAIM were so successful because there was not just a Guernsey Finance stand with its industry representatives but the same Guernsey message was being reinforced by the many practitioners attending in their own right," continued Niven.

"It proved entirely complementary, with GuernseyFinance able to offer a broad overview and the practitioners able to talk about specific details with delegates. This is a practice we will look carry out on an even larger scale in the future to make sure that we attracting as much business as possible to the Island," he observed.

Guernsey’s fund industry will take centre stage later this year at The Guernsey Investment Fund Association Conference.

Guernsey Funds 2006 - The Alternative Solution is being held, in conjunction with Guernsey Finance, on Wednesday 27 September at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London.
