Guernsey Finance has reported the success of an event, attended by more than 75 members of London’s film community, in Soho on September 30, held to showcase the potential benefits of using Guernsey’s finance industry.
The event was hosted by Guernsey Finance, the promotional agency for the Island’s finance industry, in conjunction with the recently-formed body Guernsey Film. The audience comprised specialists from across the London film community, including bankers, investors, investment advisers, lawyers, accountants, producers and distributors.
Of note at the event, was a presentation by the CEO of Future Films, Stephen Margolis, a lawyer with more than 20 years’ experience in the film industry who has raised in excess of GBP2bn for film production since founding the ‘specialist, integrated motion picture organization’ in the year 2000.
Chief Executive of Guernsey Finance, Peter Niven, welcomed “the event’s great success,” stating:
“Everything came together very well. We had a very strong turnout of more than 75 delegates. Our presentation made use of the high quality audio-visual facilities available. The presence of Stephen Margolis was a superb endorsement for the island, and the audience was very receptive to the message that Guernsey can provide a ‘one-stop shop’ solution for film finance.
“In addition, the vast majority of attendees also joined the networking reception, which provided the Guernsey practitioners with a great opportunity to either establish or reinforce relationships with some of these key members of the London film community. Overall, I’m very pleased with the event and I’m confident that it will lead to business opportunities for the island’s service providers in this field.”
Guernsey Film was formed earlier this year by a group of finance industry professionals and the Guernsey government to act as a centre of excellence for the collective infrastructure and expertise available on the island specifically within the film field. It includes experts in law, banking, insurance, tax structuring, fund management, investment funds, intellectual property and information technology, to provide centralized support for those managing the financial aspects associated with film production from the island.
